Posted by Allison Cross in Blog

Spa on the beachSure, we all try to watch what we eat and exercise more before heading off to a vacation, right? Well, now travelers seem to be more interested in planning vacations where they can continue these healthy habits throughout their stay. Let’s take a look at some of the health trends surrounding travel today.

Traveling for an Event

Planning on running in anything from a 5K to a marathon? Why not plan a weekend getaway around a race in a city you’ve always wanted to visit!? Every year, Charleston, SC hosts the Cooper River Bridge Run and the city welcomes visitors from both near and far.

Fitness Centers in Hotels

Most hotels typically offer the standard treadmill/stationary bike combination, but now hotels are stepping up their fitness game. Many hotels and resorts offer upgraded facilities, personal trainers, and fitness classes or yoga. The Biltmore, located in Miami, FL, offers guests a team of personal trainers in a state of the art facility.

Healthier Food Options

Whether you are flying, stopping in a gift shop for a quick snack, or dining in a hotel/resort’s restaurant, more healthy options are available to travelers.  Delta offers a variety of healthy snacks including pita chips and hummus or fruits and cheeses.

Isolation Vacations

Another emerging trend for travelers is planning a vacation that will force them to unplug from their technology. Certain hotels and resorts offer trips that allow guests to turn-off this constant influx receives from our phones, TVs and computes. If this is the kind of getaway you are interested in, take a look at Travaasa Hana which is located in Hana, HI.

Only time will tell if this “health-cation” trend is here to stay. For now it is important for hotels and resorts to be aware that their guests are more interested in these options and consider offering some type of services to respond to their vacationers’ desires.
