these days, it seems like every single ad, radio spot, Web banner, promo e-mail and direct mail piece is crammed to the brim with 15 different messages. it’s overwhelming….and just plain bad marketing. I’m afraid a lot of marketers have forgotten the advice of the legendary Bill Bernbach:

If your advertising goes unnoticed, everything else is academic.

every now and then, though, you happen to see something that breaks through all the clutter because it’s simple to understand, singular in message and entertaining…..like this spot from Nike for their skateboarding line of gear.

maybe it’s the production quality, perhaps it’s the music, could be the cameo by Ice Cube and the retro nod to cinema…. whatever the reason, I’ve watched it multiple times and say to myself, “damn, I wish I’d done that.”
