I always look forward to the ‘Corner Office’ piece in the NYTimes Sunday business section. A short interview with a CEO, this week Duke Energy’s James Rogers.
He?references the Normandy invasion which has always been for me a model of superior training, and reflected the difference between Allied troops and those of the enemy. Both were highly disciplined.? Certainly the Allies would have been lost without that. But they had something more…something their enemy lacked. The ability to improvise.
Because of the weather and many other problems, many of our troops landed in the wrong place. That’s when their ingenuity kicked it. Piecing together what to do, using the information and resources available, being creative…and yet grounding that creative in a powerful sense of discipline. These were the characteristics that won that battle and won the war.
And they are just the right blend of skills for our business as well.
