Levi’s and Goodwill Tag Team

Levi’s has become an “It” brand again, thanks in part to celebrities sporting the brand and a return to nostalgia and iconic brands of the past.  Likewise, shopping at Goodwill and encouragement to donate more to Goodwill is “en vogue.”

So I have to give it to these two for teaming up, in such a simple way.

Take something already in existence and make it work harder and in new way – Levi’s demonstrates consideration for the environment, partners with a big non-profit (and Goodwill with a huge retail brand) and generate serious “goodwill” at the same time.

Who knows whether anyone will ever say “I bought these Levi’s because of your Goodwill partnership” (doubtful), but they might just think about buying a pair of Levi’s next time they need new jeans – after donating their old ones to Goodwill, of course.

Here’s a follow up to this post – the NY Times this weekend did a story about how cause campaigns are suffering a little during the recession. The Levi’s/Goodwill partnership is highlighted as an alternate way to show support but not spend millions on advertising their feel good campaign.
